Your driver or off the tee club

Stance

Your feet are placed shoulder width apart.
A shoulder width stance is one where the insteps of your feet are the same width as your shoulders. To check this out, stand in front of your mirror and imagine vertical lines running up from your insteps to the outside of your shoulders.
You will want to see that your knees are directly above your feet.

This is the fullest swing you make so your feet are positioned this far apart to give you balance.

To encourage a freer swinging motion through the ball, turn your leading foot out toward your target.
Don't overdo it as this can restrict your back swing.
If you find it difficult to make a full pivot as you swing back turn your trailing foot away from your target.
If you want to tighten up your swing turn your trailing foot in towards the ball.
Don't overdo the repositioning of your feet.

Ball position

The ball is positioned in line with the instep of your leading foot.

It is positioned there because at this point in your swing the club head should be swinging in the direction you want the ball to go.

The club face should be facing the direction you want the ball to go.

The club head should just be starting to swing up from the ground. That means you will hit the ball as the club head begins to move up which in turn will allow you to hit the ball the maximum distance through the air.

The club head should be moving at its maximum speed.

Presetting 60% of your weight on your right foot encourages a full turn behind the ball.

Use the print out to help you find this ball position.
